David Bean Light & Commerce Workshop

On Sunday, I attended a workshop (www.lightandcommerce.com)  in Cincinnati with David Bean (www.visualreserve.com) on studio lighting and how to market yourself as a commercial photographer. David is an advertising, music and celebrity photographer from Nashville, TN who has shot numerous album covers for musicians across the country.

The workshop provided very useful lighting techniques both indoors in studio as well as outdoor techniques on how to deal with bright sunlight with off camera flash and reflectors. Lindsay Boggs was our local model who did a fantastic job at the photo shoot.

One of the best features of the workshop was to hear his tips on advertising and marketing for people trying to make it as full time photographers. He also had great insight for me on tips to break into music photography which is becoming my passion.

Nashville Molly Sue

I met an aspiring country music singer named Molly Sue Gonzalez this week. I made an appointment to see her while in TN to visit my family and friends while she sang at Tootsies Orchid Lounge on Friday and Saturday mornings from 10am-1 pm. Before her Saturday set, we walked around downtown Nashville to take some headshots for her portfolio. I used natural morning light as well as off camera flash and reflectors. We used downtown architecture and buildings as the backdrop. The Ryman auditorium provided a natural setting for the aspiring singer.
